Building Self-Esteem

Focus on Youth creates equity for disadvantaged youth by providing them with cameras, film and resources that otherwise would not be available to them.  Photography encourages expression beyond language barriers, and public exhibitions give youth a voice that otherwise would not be heard.

Students’ share their photographs through public exhibits scheduled throughout the city.  Photography exhibits offer youth a way to communicate, share their creativity and celebrate their accomplishments.

Exhibits have been held at Commissioner Sam Adams office in City Hall, Blackfish Gallery, Talisman Gallery, Umpqua Bank, East Bank Commerce Center, Olympic Mills and the Focus on Youth Studio.

Photo exhibits offer the youth a way to communicate and share their creativity and celebrate their accomplishments with the community. Additionally, public exhibits help the students build self-esteem and motivates them to continue learning and contributing in positive ways.
